Better Visits

We, at PAWS Veterinary Center, are made up of a team of several Fear Free Professionals on staff, who prioritize the emotional well-being of the animals they care for. Our team of highly trained veterinarians and staff utilize a variety of techniques to minimize fear, anxiety, and stress in our patients. We recognize that a frightened or stressed animal is more difficult to handle, and may even compromise their health and well-being. That’s why we use positive reinforcement training, gentle handling, and environmental modifications to make the animal feel safe, comfortable, and at ease.

Better Care

Our Fear Free approach is designed to improve the overall quality of care and reduce the risk of injury to both animals and handlers. At PAWS Veterinary Center, we are committed to providing the highest level of veterinary care with a focus on minimizing fear, anxiety, and stress in our patients.

The Fear Free Difference

PAWS offers two types of waiting areas: the social waiting area and the shy waiting area. Our canine friends usually find the social waiting area comfortable, but we understand that some of our furry pals can be quite shy, so we have a dedicated waiting area just for them. We also provide an outdoor waiting area that offers filtered water for your pet’s refreshment.

If your dog has any special needs or requirements, please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate them. Similarly, at PAWS, we also have a shy waiting area and a separate exam room for our feline friends. We do our best to minimize the time they spend in the waiting area to ensure a pleasant visit for them.

We have designated specific exam rooms for our furry friends at PAWS. On the north side of the building, we have exam rooms that cater primarily to our feline visitors. To minimize disruptions from our canine guests, we have placed the lobby between the feline exam rooms and the others.

Our exam rooms are designed to create a comfortable and stress-free environment for our feline friends. The adjustable, dim lighting in the rooms is proven to reduce stress in cats, and we also use Feliway, a feline pheromone that helps to create a calming atmosphere.

Similarly, on the Southside of the building, we have exam rooms that are primarily for our canine companions. The lobby is also between these exam rooms and the others, which helps to minimize any disturbances that some pets may find unsettling. We offer patient-specific accommodations, such as dim lighting and pheromone therapy, to make your dog’s visit more pleasant and stress-free.

PAWS takes pride in having a team of highly trained and compassionate staff who are dedicated to providing exceptional care to all our furry patients. We understand that every pet has unique needs and requirements, and we strive to offer a comfortable and professional environment for them.

To ensure that our staff is always up-to-date with the latest techniques and best practices in veterinary care, we regularly provide them with continuing education training. Specifically, we focus on low-stress handling techniques that help to minimize any anxiety or discomfort that pets may experience during their visit.

If your cat has specific needs or requirements regarding entering the clinic or handling during the appointment, please do not hesitate to let us know. Our team is always happy to accommodate and assist you in any way we can.

At PAWS, we understand that cats can get stressed out easily, especially when exposed to unfamiliar environments and loud noises. To make your cat’s visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible, we offer a solution that can help minimize any potential anxiety.

We bring a portable scale into the exam room to weigh your cat, rather than taking them to a separate area where they may be exposed to stressors such as barking dogs in the lobby. This way, we can still obtain an accurate weight measurement without putting your cat through any unnecessary stress.
